International Everest Day is celebrated every year on 29 May.
On this day in 1953, Tenzing Norgay of Nepal and Edmund Hillary of New Zealand ascended Everest for the first time.
In 2008, the Government of Nepal decided to celebrate that day as International Everest Day.
Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world with a height of 8,848 meters.
It is known as Sagarmatha (the top of heaven) in Nepali.

In Tibet it is known as Chomolangma (Queen of Mountains).
From 1830 to 1843, the mountain was named as ‘Everest’ after the name of Surveyor General of India, Sir George Everest.

International week of solidarity with people from non-autonomous regions is being organized by the United Nations from 25 to 31 May 2021.
According to the United Nations Charter, “Non-self-governing sector is an area where people have not attained full self-government.”
In the year 1946, 8 nations of the nation member listed 72 non-self-governing areas under their administration.
Currently, there are 17 non-autonomous regions remaining.


Jammu and Kashmir government launches ‘SASCM scheme’

J&K Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha has launched a special scheme ‘Assistance Scheme for COVID Mortalities – SASCM’ for financial assistance to families who have lost their sole earner due to Covid-19 epidemic. .
This scheme is also being called ‘Saksham’.
Under the scheme, a spouse and the eldest member of the family will be provided a cash assistance of Rs 1,000 per month.
In addition, a scholarship of Rs 20,000 per year is given for school going children and Rs 40,000 per year for college going students.
