World Environment Day: 05 June

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5 June to make people aware of the environment.
Theme of World Environment Day 2021: ‘Ecosystem Restoration’
It started in 1972 with the World Environment Conference organized by the United Nations General Assembly from 5 June to 16 June.
World Environment Day was celebrated for the first time on 5 June 1974 with the theme “Only one Earth”.

Indian IT company Wipro Limited touched ₹3 trillion mark in market capitalization for the first time.
With this Wipro became the third Indian IT firm to achieve this feat.
Reliance Industries is the most valuable company in India.

The second-ranked Tata Consultancy has an m-cap of Rs 11.58 trillion.
The m-cap of HDFC Bank is Rs 8.33 trillion.

International Booker Prize 2021

French novelist David Diop has been awarded the prestigious International Booker Prize 2021.
He has been given this award for his book ‘At Night All Blood is Black’.
He is the first writer from France to win this award.
He will share the £50,000 in prize money with Anna Moskovakis, the book’s English translator.
The award for the year 2020 was presented to the Netherlands-based author Marike Lukas Rijnveld for her book ‘The Discomfort of Evening’.
She became the youngest author to win this award.
International Booker Prize Established: 2005
The award is given annually to a fiction novel in any language, translated into English and published in Britain or Ireland.
Man Booker Prize: Considered the biggest prize in the field of literature after the Nobel Prizes.
It is given only for English novels.
Prize money: 60 thousand pounds

Scottish author Douglas Stuart was awarded the Booker Prize for the year 2020 for his debut novel ‘Shaggy Ben’.

ICC expands men’s ODI World Cup to 14 teams

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the Men’s Cricket World Cup will once again become a 14-team tournament in 2027 and 2031.
Earlier in the 2019 World Cup, only 10 teams participated as compared to the 14 teams in the 2015 World Cup.

NITI Aayog released Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index 2020-21

NITI Aayog released the third edition of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Index for 2020-21 on June 3, 2021.
Kerala has performed the best in the index.
Bihar, on the other hand, has performed the worst.

Goa Government set up “Goa Institution for Future Transformation (GIFT)” on the lines of NITI Aayog

The Goa government has recently formed the ‘Goa Institution for Future Transformation’ (GIFT) on the lines of ‘NITI Aayog’.
Like NITI Aayog, GIFT will assist, advise and guide the government in policy making and formulation.
To provide autonomy, GIFT will be supported by Article 309 of the Indian Constitution.


Maharashtra government announces ‘Corona Mukt Gaon’ competition with a prize of Rs 50 lakh

‘Corona Mukt Gramin’ competition is being organized to make villages aware in Maharashtra.
The villages participating in the ‘Corona Free Village’ competition will be evaluated on the basis of 22 criteria by a committee constituted for the purpose.
50 lakh for the first prize while Rs 25 lakh and 15 lakh for the second and third prize respectively.
Villages will compete for 50 marks on the basis of assessment of works done between 1 June 2021 to 31 March 2022.
