Sunil Chhetri becomes the second most active international goalscorer
Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri has surpassed Argentina’s Lionel Messi to become the second most active international goalscorer with 74 goals.
Chhetri achieved this feat by scoring two goals in the match against Bangladesh in the combined qualifiers tournament of FIFA World Cup 2022 and Asian Cup 2023.
In this list, Portugal’s star player Cristiano Ronaldo is at the first position with 103 goals.
UAE’s Ali Mabkhout is third with 73 goals and Lionel Messi is fourth with 72 goals.
Sunil Chhetri has been awarded the Arjuna Award for the year 2011 and the Padma Shri award in 2019.

India slips two places to 117th in UN’s Sustainable Development Ranking
India has slipped two places to 117th position out of 193 countries in the United Nations’ ranking of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Last year India was ranked 115th.
India is also ranked below four South Asian countries-Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
India’s overall SDG score is 61.9 out of 100.
UN member states (193) adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015.
The agenda was set to meet these goals by 2030.
Indo-Thai CORPAT exercise between India and Thailand begins
The 31st edition of the three-day Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) exercise between India and Thailand began on 9 June in the Andaman Sea.
INS Saryu on the Indian side and the Thai Navy, HTMS Krabi from Thailand are participating in this exercise.
This maritime naval exercise is being conducted twice a year between the two navies since 2005.

El Salvador has become the first country in the world to give legal status to the cryptocurrency bitcoin.
The law to make bitcoin a legal currency will come into force in 90 days.

Bitcoin was introduced to the world in the year 2009.
There are many other cryptocurrencies in the world like bitcoin. Ethereum, Tether, Binance Coin, Cardano, Dogecoin and XRP.

Education Ministry has released the Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2019-20
The Union Education Ministry has released the third edition of the Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2019-20 based on the initiatives taken by the states and union territories in the field of school education.
In the ranking, Punjab tops the chart with a score of 929 out of 1,000 among all states and union territories.
It is followed by Chandigarh (912) and Tamil Nadu (906).

CRISIL estimates India’s GDP growth rate at 9.5% and World Bank at 8.3%
Indian rating agency CRISIL has revised the GDP growth forecast for India to 9.5% for the fiscal year 2021-22 from the earlier estimate of 11%.

RBI imposes penalty of Rs 6 crore on Bank of India and Punjab National Bank
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a total penalty of Rs 6 crore on Bank of India (BOI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB) for violation of norms related to “Fraud – Classification and Reporting”.
A penalty of Rs 4 crore has been imposed on Bank of India and Rs 2 crore on Punjab National Bank.
