Every year on 29th June Prof. The birth anniversary of PC Mahalanobis is celebrated as National Statistics Day.

National Statistics Day was celebrated for the first time on 29 June 2007
Professor Prashant Chandra Mahalanobis: Prof. PC Mahalanobis is known as the ‘Father of Indian Statistics’.
He devised a measure of comparison between the two data sets now known as the Mahalanobis distance.
He was a member of the Planning Commission (1956–61) and gave a two-sector input-output model for the Second Five Year Plan, which later came to be known as the Nehru-Mahalanobis model.
He founded the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in Kolkata in December 1931.
He was awarded Padma Vibhushan (1968), Weldon Memorial Award from Oxford University (1944), Fellow of the Royal Society, London (1945).
International Tropical Day: 29 June
Every year 29 June is observed as International Day of the Tropics.
The Tropics is the tropical zone of the world that lies around the equator between the Tropic of Cancer in the north and the Tropic of Capricorn in the south.
It is the hottest region of the Earth because due to the axial tilt of the Earth, most of the heat from the Sun is concentrated at the equator and its vicinity.
The average temperature here is 18°C.
WhatsApp and NSDC launch “Digital Skills” Champions Program
National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and WhatsApp have announced a partnership to launch the “Digital Skills” Champions Programme.
The aim of which is to train the youth of India on digital skills so that they can be prepared for employment.

Australian swimmer Kelly McKeown sets world record in 100m backstroke
Australian swimmer Kelly McKeown broke the world record for the 100m backstroke.
Kelly clocked 57.45 in the final at the South Australian Aquatic Center.
Prior to Kelly, this record was held by Regan Smith of America who took 57.57 seconds in 2019.
Twitter appoints California’s Jeremy Kessel as new complaints officer
Social media company Twitter India has announced the appointment of California-born Jeremy Kessel as the new Grievance Officer.
Just a few weeks back, Twitter had appointed Dharmendra Chatur as the Grievance Officer.
But he had resigned.

It’s a Wonderful Life by Ruskin Bond
Ruskin Bond, a world-renowned Indian English-language author, has written a new book titled “It’s a Wonderful Life“.
The book is published by Aleph Book Company.
Ruskin Bond: Ruskin Bond was born on 19 May 1934 in Himachal Pradesh.
His first novel, “The Room on the Roof”, received the John Llewellyn Rice Memorial Prize in 1957.
In 1999, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri for his contributions in the field of literature.
He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2014.
He has been given the Sahitya Akademi Award for ‘Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra’.
Conferred with the Tata Literature Lifetime Achievement Award for 2020.
Recently, on his 87th birthday, Ruskin Bond released a new book titled ‘All Time Favorite for Children‘ on 19th May.
Microsoft launches “Windows 11”
Microsoft has recently officially launched its next generation operating system Windows 11.
Earlier in 2015, Windows 10 was launched.
Windows 11 will get the experience to explore many new features like new design, new start menu setup, better performance, Android app support.

China will run first electronic train in Tibet
China started operating its first electric bullet train in the Tibet region of the Himalayas.
The train will connect Lhasa, the provincial capital of Tibet, and Nyingchi, a city bordering Arunachal Pradesh.
This railway line is 1,629 km long.
The 5km-long Lhasa-Nyingchi section of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway will be inaugurated on July 1 ahead of the centenary celebrations of the ruling Communist Party of China.
India and Bhutan launch ‘Tax Inspectors without Borders’ initiative
Tax Inspectors Without Borders (TIWB), a joint initiative of United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), was launched in Bhutan.
India has been selected as a partner in this.
India has provided tax experts for this program.
This program is of approximately 24 months duration.
