National Broadcasting Day is celebrated every year on 23rd July.
On 23 July 1927, radio began broadcasting from Bombay station for the first time in the country under a private company called the Indian Broadcasting Company of India (IBC).
In 1930 the government took control of broadcasting and changed its name to the Indian State Broadcasting Service (ISBS).
On 8 June 1936, the Indian State Broadcasting Service was renamed All India Radio (AIR).
Later in 1957 its name was changed to Akashvani.

Income Tax Day: 24 July
Income Tax Day is celebrated every year on 24 July by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
161st Income Tax Day is being celebrated this year.
The credit for the introduction of income tax in India goes to the British economist James Wilson.
He presented the first budget on 18 February 1860.
James Wilson is considered the ‘father of budget in India’.

Tokyo Olympics 2020: Mira Bai Chanu won silver medal in weightlifting
Manipur’s weightlifter Mira Bai Chanu has won silver medal in 49kg category at Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Mirabai is the second woman from India to win a medal in weightlifting.
Earlier, Karnam Malleswari had won a bronze medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Mirabai Chanu is the only athlete to represent India at the Tokyo Olympics in weightlifting.
The gold medal in this event was won by China’s Jihoi Hou.
Indonesia’s Windy Kentika Ayesha won the bronze medal.
UNESCO removes Liverpool, England from the World Heritage List
The city of Liverpool in England has been removed from the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
It was included in the World Heritage Site in the year 2004.
Liverpool is the third venue to be removed from the list.
Earlier in 2007 the Arabian Oryx Sanctuary in Oman and in 2009 the Dresden Elbe Valley in Germany were removed from this list.
The total number of heritage sites recognized by UNESCO in India are 38 (30 cultural, 7 natural and 1 mixed).

2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in Brisbane city of Australia
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that the 2032 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in the Australian city of Brisbane.
Australia has previously hosted the Olympics twice, Melbourne in 1956 and Sydney in 2000.

Chandigarh’s Sandesh Jhingan named ‘Men’s Footballer of the Year’
All India Football Federation (AIFF) has named Indian national football team and ATK Mohun Bagan defender Sandesh Jhingan as ‘Men’s Footballer of the Year’ for the year 2020-21.
Bengaluru FC midfielder Suresh Singh Wangjam has won the ‘AIFF Men’s Emerging Footballer of the Year’ award.
Sandesh Jhingan won the ‘Emerging Player of the Year Award’ in 2014.
He was awarded the Arjuna Award in the year 2020.

China started ‘maglev train’ running with speed of 600 kmph
China has launched the world’s fastest running maglev train.
The speed of this train is 600 kmph.
It will take only two and a half hours to travel from Beijing to Shanghai (about 1000 km) by this train.

World’s first 3D printed steel bridge opens in Amsterdam
The world’s first 3D printed steel bridge has been opened to the public in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands.
The bridge has been built by Amsterdam-based 3D metal printing company MX3D.
This steel bridge has been named MX3D.
This 12 meter long bridge has been made from about 4500 kg of steel.
The bridge was unveiled by Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.

Approval for setting up of Central University in Ladakh
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur has announced that the Union Cabinet has approved the formation of a Central University in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
This university will be constructed at a cost of Rs 750 crore.
