BRO built world’s highest road in Ladakh
The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has built the world’s highest road at an altitude of 19,300 feet at the Umling-La pass in eastern Ladakh.
This road is 52 km long which connects important towns of Chumar sector of Eastern Ladakh.
Before this, Bolivia held the title of the world’s highest road.
Where there was a motorable road 18,953 feet high.

During the Second World War (1939- 1945), an atomic bomb named ‘Little Boy’ was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.
Hiroshima Day is celebrated every year on 6 August in memory of this horrific event.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has launched a door-to-door healthcare scheme ‘Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam’ in Krishnagiri district.
The objective of this scheme is not only to provide essential medicines at the doorsteps of the people, but also to take medical services to their homes.
Justice V M Kanade appointed Lokayukta of Mumbai
Justice VM Kanade, a retired judge of the Bombay High Court, has been appointed as the new Lokayukta of Maharashtra.
Recently KN Bhattacharjee has been appointed as the third Lokayukta of Tripura.
Lokayukta is an anti-corruption ombudsman organization in Indian states.
Once appointed, the Lokayukta cannot be dismissed or transferred by the government.
Can be removed only by passing an impeachment motion by the state assembly.
The first Lokayukta in the country was formed in Maharashtra in 1971.
Dhriti Banerjee, the first woman director of the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI)
Dhriti Banerjee has been appointed as the first woman director in the 105-year-old Zoological Survey of India (ZSI).
The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) is a subordinate organization of the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

‘Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan’ extended for another 5 years
The Union Cabinet has approved the extension of ‘Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan’ for another 5 years.
Now this scheme will continue from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2026.
Which will be known as Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan-2.0.
According to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Rs 2.94 lakh crore will be spent on ‘Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan-2.0’ and the share of the Center in this amount will be Rs 1.85 lakh crore.
‘Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna’ award renamed after ‘Major Dhyan Chand’
The Central Government has changed the name of ‘Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna’ award to ‘Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna’ award.
Major Dhyan Chand, known as the ‘magician’ of hockey, won three consecutive Olympic golds (1928 Amsterdam, 1932 Los Angeles and 1936 Berlin) for the country.
His birthday (29 August) is celebrated as National Sports Day.

Ladakh launches ‘Pani Month’ campaign
The “Pani Month” campaign has been started under the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state by the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh, RK Mathur.
This campaign will run in two phases at the block and panchayat level.
The first phase will run from 1 to 14 August 2021 and the second phase from 16 to 30 August 2021.

World’s largest sapphire found in Sri Lanka
Recently, the world’s largest sapphire has been found in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka while digging a well at the house of a gem trader.
The weight of this sapphire is about 510 kg or 2.5 million carats.
It is named “Serendipity Sapphire”.
Its estimated value in the international market is up to $100 million.

Country’s lightest metro train will be launched in Pune
India’s lightest (made of aluminum) metro train will be started in Pune.
These trains (total 34 trains) for Pune Metro will be sent from Italy.
These trains are being manufactured by Italy-based Titagarh Wagons Limited.
Each train will have three coaches.
