Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award 2021
On 26 September 1942 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award 2021 was announced on the occasion of 80th Foundation Day of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
The award is given annually to scientists below the age of 45 for their contributions to biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, medicine, engineering and Earth, atmosphere, ocean and planetary sciences.
A total of 11 scientists have been given this award this year.

Rabies is a viral disease that is transmitted to people through the saliva of infected animals (bites from animals such as dogs, cats and monkeys).

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and her partner Zhang Shuai (China) have won the women’s doubles title at the Ostrava Open in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
She defeated Caitlin Christian (USA) and Erin Rutliff (NZ) 6-3, 6-2 in the final to win the title.

Recently ‘Sojat Mehndi’ of Rajasthan has been given Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
Sojat Mehndi is the 16th GI tag product from Rajasthan.
Liquor ‘Judima’ made by Dimasa community in Assam has been awarded GI tag.
This wine is made from rice and certain herbs.
GI Tags: GI tags in India are given under the Registration and Protection Act 1999.

75 Divyangjans from 15 states were honored with Hunarbaaz Award
On the occasion of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay’s birth anniversary (Antyodaya Diwas) on 25th September, 2021 and as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, 75 Divyangjans from 15 states have been honored with Hunarbaaz Awards.
These awards have been given by the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR), Hyderabad under the Ministry of Rural Development.
Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi: It is an initiative launched by the Government of India to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence.
The festival will run for 75 weeks (15 August 2023) starting from 12 March 2021.

North India’s largest palmetum opened in Uttarakhand
Recently, Uttarakhand’s first and North India’s largest ‘Palmetam (palm horticulture site)’ has been inaugurated in Haldwani, Uttarakhand.
More than 100 species of date palm have been planted in this palmatum.

Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh has been appointed as the 34th Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC).
He succeeds Lt Gen Tarun Kumar Aich in this post.
Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh was commissioned in the ‘Parachute Regiment’ in the year 1987.

Through this portal people willing to serve the society can register themselves to serve in the field of education, skill development, sports and agriculture.
