Rabindranath Tagore’s 160th Birthday: 7th May

The great poet and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7 May 1861 in Kolkata.
His 160th birthday was celebrated on 7 May 2021.
His father’s name was Devendranath Tagore, mother’s name was Sharda Devi and wife’s name was Mrinalini Devi.
Mahatma Gandhi gave the title of ‘Gurudev’ to Rabindra ji.
Rabindranath Tagore was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1913 for his work Gitanjali.
He is the recipient of the Nobel Prize in India as well as in the continent of Asia.
Rabindra ji composed the national anthem of India ‘Jan-gun-mana’.
Along with this, his song ‘Aamar Sonar Bangla’ is also the national song of Bangladesh.
He wrote ‘Bhikharini’ in the year 1877 and ‘Sandhya Geet’, a collection of poems in the year 1882.
He died on 7 August 1941.

Every year on 8 – 09 May the United Nations commemorates the day of those who lost their lives and contributed to reconciliation during World War II.
This year marks the 76th anniversary of World War II.
World War II was an armed worldwide conflict that took place between the years 1939–45.
The war involved two major rival faction axis powers (Germany, Italy and Japan) and the Allies (France, Great Britain, the United States, the Soviet Union, and to a lesser extent China).

Hemant Biswa Sarma becomes the new Chief Minister of Assam

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Hemant Biswa Sarma took the oath of office as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam.
He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Jagdish Mukhi.
He will replace Sarbananda Sonowal.
In the 2021 assembly elections, BJP won 60 seats in the 126-member assembly.


Bill Nelson sworn in as NASA’s 14th administrator

Former Florida senator Bill Nelson was sworn in as the 14th administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
US Vice President Kamala Harris administered the oath of office to Nelson in Washington.
Bill Nelson replaces former NASA Administrator Steve Jurski.

Recently the Laureus World Sports Awards for the year 2021 were announced.
In which Naomi Osaka of Japan, the world’s No. 2 tennis player, has been honored in the Sportswoman of the Year awards.
This is Osaka’s second honor at the Laureus Sports Award.
Earlier he was awarded Breakthrough of the Year in 2019.

Indian-origin immunization specialist Shankar Ghosh has been selected for the prestigious National Academy of Sciences of the US.
He has been given this honor for “continuing the remarkable work in fundamental research.”
Ghosh’s research is important to find out the effects on the immune system of various diseases, including cancer to sepsis and diabetes.


Uncontrolled Chinese rocket debris fell near Maldives-Sri Lanka in Indian Ocean

According to the Chinese Space Agency, debris from China’s Long March 5B rocket entered the Earth’s atmosphere and subsequently fell into the Indian Ocean near the Maldives.
The rocket was named 2021-035B which was 100 feet long and 16 feet wide.
China launched the Long March 5B Y2 on 29 April.
Through this, China wanted to build a new space station in space.
It went with a module to the space station. After leaving the module in a fixed orbit, it was to be returned to the earth in a controlled manner.
But China’s space agency lost control over it.
China named this module Tianhe.

The Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge) Shri Pahlad Singh Patel attended the virtual meeting of Tourism Ministers of G20 countries held in Italy on 4 May.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Massimo Garavaglia, Minister of Tourism of Italy.
He also apprised India’s efforts for the principles for green travel and changes in tourism economy presented by UNWTO as another contribution to the policy area “green change” to adopt sustainability in tourism.
In 2022, Indonesia will host a meeting of the G20 Tourism Ministers.

Sana Ramchand, a resident of the rural area of Shikarpur district in Sindh province, Pakistan’s most Hindu population, is an MBBS doctor.

Rajya Sabha MP and Padmabhushan honored Odisha famous sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra has passed away due to corona infection.
In the year 2018, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan.
Earlier, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 1976 and the Padma Bhushan by the President in 2001.
