On April 14, 2021, the 130th birth anniversary of Babasaheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar is being celebrated.
He was born on 14 April 1891 in a small village of Mahoo Cantonment in Madhya Pradesh.
His original name is Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar hence Ambedkar Jayanti is also known as Bhima Jayanti.
Dr. Ambedkar is known as the Father of Indian Constitution.
He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, by the Government of India in the year 1990.
He was the first law and justice minister of the country after independence.
Recently, the Government of India has decided to declare Dr. BR Ambedkar Jayanti as a public holiday on 14 April.


Former hockey player Balbir Singh Jr passed away

Former Indian hockey team player Balbir Singh Jr. passed away at the age of 88.
He was part of the silver medal winning team at the Asian Games in 1958.
He joined the Indian Army in 1962 and continued to play for the Army team.


The poet Surdas’s tapasthali renamed from ‘Mahmudpur’ to ‘Parasauli’.

In Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, Mahakavi Surdas’s Tapasthali has been announced to change the existing name of Mahmudpur to “Parasauli”.
It is noted as the Karmasthali of the poet Surdas.
Surdas was a great poet of the Bhaktikal of Hindi.
In Hindi literature, Surdas, the exclusive worshiper of Lord Krishna and the best poet of Brajbhasha, is considered the ‘Surya’ of Hindi literature.
The five books of Surdas are considered authentic – Sur-Sagar, Sur-Saravali, Sahitya – Lahari, Vyahla, and Nal – Damayanti.
Surdas is also known as the ‘Ship of Ashtachhap’.


Poonam Gupta became the first woman director general of NCAER

The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), an economic research institute, has appointed World Bank chief economist Poonam Gupta as the next director general.
She will replace the current chief Shekhar Shah.
Poonam Gupta will be the first woman director general of NCAER.

The theme of this award is ‘Women Empowerment’.

Kane Williamson was awarded the ‘Sir Richard Hadley Medal’ for the fourth time

New Zealand cricket team captain Ken Williamson was awarded the prestigious ‘Sir Richard Hadlee Medal’ for the fourth time in all 6 years and also became the best Test Cricketer of the Year.

  • In the women’s category, all-rounder Amelia Kerr was honored for the Dream 11 Super Smash and the International T20 Women’s Award.
  • Devon Conway was awarded the Men’s Player of the Year award in both ODI and T20.
  • 21-year-old Finn Allen was awarded the Super Smash Player of the Year award for a staggering strike rate of 193.

Sir Richard Hadley is a former New Zealand cricketer who is considered to be one of the greatest fast bowlers and all-rounders in the history of cricket.
In his memory, Sir Richard Hadley medal is given by New Zealand Cricket.


World Chagas Disease Day: 14 April

World Chagas Disease Day is observed every year on 14 April with the aim of spreading awareness about Chagas disease.
Chagas is an infectious disease caused by the parasites found in the feces of the triatomine insect.
The disease is named after Doctor Carlos Justiniano Ribeiro Chagas.
It was approved to celebrate this day in the 72nd Health Assembly on 24 May 2019.
Hence, the first World Chagas Disease Day was observed on 14 April 2020.


Singapore became the first country to implement the largest free trade agreement ‘RCEP’

Singapore has accepted the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership-RCEP agreement.
Singapore has become the first country to implement this multilateral trade agreement.
The RCEP is the world’s largest free trade agreement lead by China.
Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), adopted by ten ASEAN member states (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia) and five other countries Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea Gaya is a free trade agreement (FTA).
In November 2020, the RCEP was signed by 15 partner countries.
RCEP countries represent one-third of the world’s population and 30% of global GDP.


Siddharth Longjam becomes Director General of NADA

IAS officer Siddharth Singh Longjam has been appointed as the next Director-General of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
He will replace Naveen Agrawal, who told him that the highlight of his tenure was the preparation of the Biological Passport (ABP) of about 60 elite players in the country.
