100% FDI approved in telecom sector
The Union Cabinet has approved a relief package for the telecom and automobile sectors.
Under this, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the telecom sector has been increased from 49% to 100% through the automatic route.
Along with this, a moratorium of 4 years has also been given on payment of statutory dues by telecom companies.
Altogether 9 structural and 5 process reforms have been approved by the Union Cabinet.
India is the fifth largest recipient of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the world in 2020.
Largest FDI investor for India in FY 2020-21: Singapore (29%)
Gujarat is the first FDI recipient state.
Maharashtra is second and Karnataka third.
FDI in India is allowed through two different routes: automatic and government approval.
Automatic Route FDI: In this route, the foreign entity does not require prior approval of the government or RBI.
