World Thyroid Day: 25 May

World Thyroid Day is celebrated globally on 25 May every year.
This day was celebrated for the first time in the year 2009.
This disease is caused by enlargement of the thyroid gland.
The thyroid gland is also called the Avatu gland.
Avatu or thyroid glands are one of the largest atrophic glands found in the human body.
The gland is butterfly-shaped, producing triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) and maintained by thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).
Deficiency of these hormones in the body leads to hypothyroidism (sudden weight gain).
And increased thyroid hormone leads to hyperthyroidism.

Forbes has released a list of the world’s 10 richest athletes for the year 2021.
According to this list, Ireland’s veteran mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor is the highest-grossing athlete in the world.

Hockey India won Etienne Glichich Award

57th Renewable Energy Country Attraction Index 2021

The global organization ‘Ernst and YOUNG’ released the ’57th Renewable Energy Country Attraction Index 2021′ (RECAI).
India has reached the third place in the index.
Earlier, India was fourth in the 56th index.
The US has retained the top position in the index.
China finished second.

India is also committed to setting up 450 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Uttarakhand government started ‘Mukhyamantri Vatsalya Yojana’

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat announced ‘Mukhyamantri Vatsalya Yojana’, a scheme of education and employment for children who lost their parents due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
Under this scheme, such children will be given an allowance of 3 thousand rupees per month till the age of 21 years.
Along with this, 5% regional reservation will also be given in the government job in the state.


World’s largest iceberg broken by Antarctica “Iceberg A-76”

The world’s largest iceberg, the iceberg, broke apart from Antarctica.
The name of this iceberg is A-76.
According to satellite photographs taken by the European Space Agency, the iceberg is 170 kilometers long and about 25 kilometers wide.
The iceberg was 4320 square kilometers in size, which is half the size of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The A-76 iceberg is separated from ‘Ronne Iceshelf’ in the ‘Weddell Sea’ of Antarctica.
This incident of the break-up of Iceberg has been captured on camera by the satellite Kaepernickus Sentinel of the European Union.
Antarctica: Antarctica is the southernmost continent of the Earth.
It is the fifth largest continent on Earth, after Asia, Africa, North America and South America.
‘Erebus’ is the only active volcano on the continent of Antarctica.

Former Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Srikumar Banerjee passed away

Former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India, Dr. Sreekumar Banerjee has passed away.
He retired as the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission in 2012 and the secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy.
Banerjee also served as the director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) from 2004 to 2010.
He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2005 and the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in 1989.

Shivshankar Menon has written a book titled ‘India and Asian Geopolitics: The Past, Present’.
He served as India’s National Security Advisor under the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh.
He previously served as the Foreign Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, India’s veteran industrialist Gautam Adani has become the second richest person in Asia.
He has defeated Zhong Shanshan of China to finish second.
They are behind only Mukesh Ambani in Asia.
Globally, Gautam Adani is the 14th wealthiest person in the world.
Mukesh Ambani is the 13th richest person in the world.
