Vesak Day: 26 May

Vesak, also known as Buddha Jayanti, Buddha Purnima and Buddha Day, is celebrated globally on 26 May every year.
On this day Lord Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment.
This day has been celebrated by the United Nations since 2000.
Mahatma Buddha was born on the day of Vaishakha Purnima in 563 BCE in Lumbini, located in the valleys of Nepal.
Buddha left home at the age of 29 to start a life of renunciation.
On the day of Vaishakh Purnima, he attained enlightenment by meditating under a peepal tree in Bodh Gaya (Bihar).
The first Guru of Buddha was Alar Kalam
Mahatma Buddha attained nirvana at the age of 80 in a place called Kushinara in 483 BC on the day of Vaishakh Purnima.
After his death his disciples called for a council at the Rajgriha, where the main teachings of Buddhism were codified.
To encapsulate these teachings as Pitakas, four Buddhist musicians were organized, after which three main Pitakas were formed.
1. Vinay Pitaka: Rules of Law for Buddhist Favors
2. Sut Pitaka: Buddha’s Preaching Principle)
3. Abhidhamma Pitaka: Buddhism

These are jointly called Tripitaka.
All these are written in Pali language.
According to the Hindu religion, Gautama Buddha is considered to be the 9th incarnation of Lord Shri Vishnu.

Naturalist Jane Goodall was awarded the Templeton Prize 2021

Renowned naturalist Jane Goodall has been announced as the 2021 winner of the Templeton Prize.
He has won this award for his pioneering studies of chimpanzee in Tanzania in the 1960s.
The Templeton Award is an award given annually by the Templeton Foundation.
Establishment: 1973
Mother Teresa (1973) was the first person to receive the award.
In the year 2012, the award was given to the Tibetan religious leader Dalai Lama.

Anvi Bhutani, an Indian-origin anthropology student from Magdalen College, Oxford University, has been declared the winner in the student union by-election.

Mexican author Valeria Lucelli has been awarded the International Dublin Literary Award 2021 for her novel “Lost Children Archive”.
The International Dublin Literary Prize is awarded each year for a novel written or translated in English.
