63rd Ramon Magsaysay Award for the year 2021 announced on August 31
A total of five people have been selected for the Ramon Magsaysay Award this year.
List of winners:
1. | Dr. Firdausi Qadri | Scientists from Bangladesh. Dr. Qadri is credited with developing the oral vaccine for cholera and the typhoid vaccine. |
2. | Muhammad Amjad Saqib | Saqib is credited with founding one of the largest microfinance institutions in Pakistan. They have developed a first of its kind interest free microfinance program ‘Akhuwat’. |
3. | Roberto Ballone | Roberto Ballon is a fish and community environmentalist from the Philippines. |
4. | steven munsi | Steven Muncie is a humanitarian activist from America. He has been selected for the Ramon Magsaysay Award for humanitarian work, refugee aid and peacebuilding. |
5. | watchdock | Indonesia’s WatchDoc has been selected for the award for investigative journalism. |
Establishment of Ramon Magsaysay Award: 1957
The award is given in memory of Ramon Magsaysay, the third President of the Philippines.
It is also called the ‘Nobel Prize of Asia’.
This award is the highest honor in Asia.
First Indian to receive Ramon Magsaysay Award: Acharya Vinoba Bhave (1958)
The Ramon Magsaysay Awards for the year 2020 were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Jagannath Vidyadhar Mohapatra has been appointed as the chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

Para athlete Vinod Kumar snatched bronze medal at Tokyo Paralympics
Para athlete Vinod Kumar has been loose of the bronze medal for being found ineligible in the classification inspection at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020.
