International Children’s Book Day: 2 April

International Children’s Book Day is observed every year on 2 April. The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) has celebrated this day every year since 1967 with a view to inspire children’s love for reading and recognize the role of books.

Global Gender Gap Index: 2021

The World Economic Forum (WEF) releases the 15th edition of the Global Gender Gap Report 2021. According to the report, India is ranked 140 in the list of 156 countries and is the third worst performing country in South Asia. In 2020, India had ranked 112th among 153 countries on the index.

Indian Army to participate in ‘Shantir Ogroshena-2021’ military exercise in Bangladesh

Shantir Ogrosena-2021′ multinational military exercise is being organized from April 4 to 12, 2021 to commemorate the birth centenary of Bangladesh’s ‘Father of the Nation’ Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 50 years of independence. The theme of this exercise is “Robust Peace Keeping Operations”.
In this nine-day exercise, a 30-member Indian Army contingent of Dogra Regiment will participate in the exercise along with contingents of Bhutan, Sri Lankan and Bangladesh forces.
Military observers from the US, UK, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Singapore will also be present during the exercise.


Brunette Bullet becomes the second Indian woman to swim across the Palk Strait

The 47-year-old Shyamala Goli of Telangana crossed the 30-kilometer-long Pak Strait in 14 hours. She has become the second Indian woman to achieve this position after Bula Chaudhary.
The Palk Strait is a strait located between the Tamil Nadu of India and the Jaffna district of the northern province of Sri Lanka. It connects the Bay of Bengal with the Pak Bay in the northeast and the Gulf of Mannar in the southwest. The Strait is named after Robert Palk, a governor of the Madras Presidency (1755–1763) during the British Raj.

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu has released a book titled ‘Suparipalan’, a Telugu translation of the book “Echo Tea Calling: Towards People-Centric Governance” written by former Chief Secretary of Telangana S.K. Joshi.
The translator of the book is Shri Annavarapu Brahmaiah.

‘Mahendragiri’ proposed as Odisha’s second biosphere reserve

The Government of Odisha has proposed ‘Mahendragiri’ as the second biosphere reserve of the state. Mahendragiri is also the second highest peak in the state with a height of 1,501 meters.
The Biosphere Reserve Program was first started by UNESCO in 1971 under the ‘Man and Biosphere Program’.
Currently, there are 18 biosphere reserves in India.
Simlipal Biosphere Reserve is Odisha’s first biosphere reserve.
