The Central Government declared Dr. BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary as a public holiday
The Government of India has declared Dr. BR Ambedkar Jayanti as a public holiday on 14 April.
April 14, 2021 will be the 130th birth anniversary of Ambedkar.
Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891 in Mhow Cantonment, a small village in Madhya Pradesh.
His original name is Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.
His father’s name was Ramji Maloji Sakpal and mother’s Bhimabai.
Baba Saheb is considered to be the cornerstone of the Indian Constitution.
He was the chairman of the drafting committee of the constitution.
Babasaheb Ambedkar died on 6 December 1956. He was posthumously awarded the ‘Bharat Ratna’, India’s highest civilian honor, by the Government of India in the year 1990.
Mallika Srinivasan becomes President of PESB
Mallika Srinivasan, chairperson and managing director of the private sector company Tractor and Farm Equipment (TAFE) Ltd, has been appointed as the chairperson of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), as per the order of the Ministry of Personnel.
This is the first time that a private sector expert has been appointed as the head of PESB.

West Central Railway becomes first fully electrified Railway Zone in India
West Central Railway has become the first fully electrified railway zone in India after CCRS inspection and electrification of Kota-Chittorgarh railway station (Srinagar-Jalindri) in Rajasthan. Bhopal, Jabalpur and Kota railway divisions fall in this zone. The three have a combined railway track of 3012 km long.
West Central Railway was established on 1 April 2003.
Its headquarters is located in Jabalpur.
Indian Railways is divided into 18 zone. The 18th zone has been added to the South Coastal Railway Division on 27 July 2019.
India’s first environment minister Digvijay Singh Jhala dies
Former Union Minister of India Digvijay Singh Jhala passed away. He was the first Environment Minister of India from the year 1982 to 1984. Apart from this, he has also been an MLA from Wakaner in Gujarat, he was an independent MLA from Wakaner till 1962-67.

International Mine Awareness Day: 4 April
International Mine Awareness Day is observed every year on 4 April. This day is celebrated with the aim of providing protection from the danger arising due to landmines, spreading awareness about health and life related problems.
Theme: “Perseverance, Participation and Progress”
On 8 December 2005, the U.N. General Assembly announced that April 4 would be celebrated every year as ‘International Mine Awareness’ and ‘Mine Work Assistance Day’. It was first celebrated on 4 April 2006.
Reserve Bank Deputy Governor B.P. Kanungo retired
Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor B.P. Kanungo retired on 2 April 2021 after completing his term.
Kanungo was appointed as the Deputy Governor for three years in 2017.
In 2020 he received a one-year extension.
After his retirement, the Reserve Bank has three deputy governors Mahesh Kumar Jain, Michael Patra and Rajeshwar Rao.

Union Education Minister Launches “MyNEP2020” Platform of NCTE Web Portal
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launched the “MyNEP2020” platform on the National Portal of Teacher Education (NCTE). This platform will be operational from 1 April 2021 to 15 May 2021.
The portal has been launched to draft for the development of the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) and the National Mission for Mentoring Program Membership (NMM).
